Private Modern Residence

Supplementing function and aesthetics with lighting

Introduction

Modern architecture often focuses on function over form - each nook and cranny must have function. This, paired with ample negative space to give the eye places to rest, creates the commonly revered design principles. We were approached by our client to replicate this in the lighting concepts.

Minimal intervention

At Lets Light, our approach is always to maximise the effect with the least amount of intervention. This means that our clients pay less, the maintenance plan is simplified, and the public has fewer opportunities to see the less-desirable viewing angles (i.e. being able to directly look into luminaires). For this project, we wanted to let the building interior do the heavy lifting for the exterior lighting, and supplement with some vegetation illumination.

Maximum effect

The interior illumination provides gentle, warm tones that wash over the pathways and façades in proximity to the building, where most activity will take place. We supplemented this with a handful of tree uplighters to pick out foliage to accentuate the mature trees that were brought in for this project. Additionally, soffit lighting on the first floor creates an inviting area for our client and visitors to spend the evening. This illumination also casts light on the balcony planting.

Conclusion

The lighting design effectively balances function and aesthetics with minimal intervention, creating an inviting and visually appealing environment. By leveraging interior illumination and carefully placed exterior lights, the project achieves a cohesive and harmonious ambiance that enhances the architectural and natural elements.

WHAT OUR CLIENT THINKS.

Private client

Working with Lets Light was a fantastic experience. They were able to convert our ideas and example images into a real concept which is exactly what we were looking for. We really appreciated their collaborative approach and genuine passion to deliver a great result. It was also great to have someone propose darkness as a way to accentuate things rather than just adding light everywhere. We will definitely work with them again!
